How To Increase Your Search Traffic

This is a guest post by Matthew Woodward founder of LinksThatRank.

Look at how this websites organic search traffic has grown over the last few months:

This was achieved by making improvements to each of the 3 pillars of SEO.  Technical, content and link building.

Here are 6 things that you can do to increase your sites search traffic as well:

How To Increase Your Search Traffic

If you want to boost your website’s search traffic, you need to focus on three core elements:

  1. Technical
  2. Content
  3. Links

Improvements in these areas yield better results.

So today, I’m going to show you exactly what you should be looking for in each of those areas.

1. Technical Improvements

Technical SEO serves as the backbone of your website’s performance in search engines.

It focuses on optimizing the technical aspects of your site to enhance visibility, crawlability, and overall user experience.

Without a solid technical foundation, efforts in link-building and content creation may yield limited results.

Let’s explore three essential steps you should implement right away to strengthen your website’s SEO:

Basic SEO Error Checking

It’s amazing how many people pay me for SEO consultation but have tons of basic errors on their site, causing 90% of the problems.

Most people fail to grasp the impact of “basic errors” on rankings.

Thankfully…

You’re not like most people.

In this lesson, I will show you how to quickly identify basic errors stopping your site from ranking.

Identify Problems With Google Search Console

If you haven’t worked it out already…

Google Search Console is your new best SEO friend. It’s like looking at your site through the eyes of Google.

Below I am going to walk you through step by step how to use each GSC report to fix website issues.

Indexing Section

If your content isn’t indexed…

It isn’t going to rank. With the explosion of AI content being generated, getting indexed is getting harder.

Google is scrutinising everyone’s content more before they index and rank it.

In GSC, under Indexing, you will see:

  • Pages
  • Video Pages
  • Sitemaps

The first step is to check each report for any errors related to the indexing that GSC is reporting.

You can click on any errors to find out more about them, and see the exact pages that are being affected.

Make a note of all the issues you find.

Enhancements & Shopping Section

Next is the shopping and enhancement section. Yours might look different to this depending on how your site is built-

There are several reports here, but don’t get overwhelmed. Click through each report and make a note of any errors you find.

Note: Depending on your site setup, you might not see the shopping or enhancements section in GSC. That’s ok, leave it.

Security & Manual Actions Section

Lastly, check the Security And Manual Action Report.

Hopefully, you don’t find any errors here and just have a green check mark!

These are the most serious issues.

If you have a manual penalty, you will need professional help. Reach out to my Google Penalty Recovery team to get help.

Manual Google penalties are hard to recover from. You need real pros who know what they are doing if you have one and want any chance of getting your organic traffic back.

Fix All Identified Problems

Now for the important part…

Work through all of the issues listed in Google Search Console and fix them.

You might have already fixed some of them during the Semrush audit process. In that case, you just need to click “validate fix”.

Make sure you validate each and every fix in GSC right after you have made changes. This will help you stay on track and move forward.

Depending on your site, this could take some time. But make sure you get each error sorted out.

E-EAT Signals

E-E-A-T is an integral part of Google’s Search Quality Rater Guidelines which serves as the handbook used by Google’s web spam team to assess the quality of search results.

The acronym stands for:

  • Experience
  • Expertise
  • Authoritativeness
  • Trustworthiness

In essence, E-E-A-T signals demonstrate to Google that your business is genuine and reliable, making it a trustworthy source for directing traffic.

This is increasingly crucial, particularly in the era of AI-generated content.

To achieve higher rankings in search engine results, showcasing these signals is essential.

The good news?

A few swift adjustments to your website can instantly enhance its E-A-T credibility.

How To Add EAT Signals To Your Site

Here’s a concise guide on enhancing your E-A-T signals by adding crucial elements to your website:

Business Name, Address & Phone Number (NAP):

Clearly display your business name, address, and phone number on your website.

nap signals

In SEO terminology, this trio is referred to as NAP.

It’s essential for all websites, including Amazon affiliate sites and businesses with physical locations.

Add this information to the following key areas:

  • Footer
  • About page
  • Contact page

These sections are where visitors often seek details about your business or wish to get in touch.

Don’t have a physical address?

If you lack a physical address, consider these alternatives:

  • Accountant Address: Obtain permission from your accountant to use and display their physical address on your website.
  • Virtual Address: Rent a virtual address online (typically costing a few dollars per week). This provides a legitimate address without revealing your home location.
  • Home Address: Use your home address. While using your home address is an option, not everyone feels comfortable doing so.

Struggling for a phone number?

Use CallRail to set up a pre-recorded answering message for incoming calls. Messages received can be conveniently forwarded to your email.

This approach ensures you’re reachable without being tied to the phone’s immediate vicinity.

Adding Organisation Structured Data

The next step is to add Organisation Structured Data to your website.

To do so, you should use the Local SEO module in RankMath.

Unlike other options, this only takes a few minutes to set up.

Once you have added it, you should use Schema Validator to check that everything is showing up ok, just like that:

This should allow you to see your address, phone number, social profiles, and more!

About Page

Your “About” page aims to showcase the people behind your business while improving your E-A-T signals.

Ideally, your “About” page should include:

  1. Business Owner & Team Images:
  • Add images of the business owner and team members to the About page.
  • These visuals help visitors connect with the faces behind the brand.
  1. Team Member Bios:
  • Include brief bios for important team members.
  • Link each bio to the respective team member’s LinkedIn profile for credibility.
  1. Achievements, Qualifications, and Awards:
  • List notable achievements, qualifications, and awards earned by your team.
  • Highlight expertise and accomplishments.
  1. “About the Team” Section:
  • Write a section that provides insights into your team’s background, values, and mission.
  • Let visitors understand the people driving your business.

Bonus Tip: Boost your E-A-T signals by adding testimonials or reviews from real customers to your home page, about page, and service/product pages. Authentic feedback reinforces trust!

2. Quick Content Improvements

Now, let’s focus on the second pillar of SEO – Content.

Content is king —without it, traffic remains elusive. Let’s give content the respect it truly deserves.

Creating Linkable Content

While prioritizing content that generates leads and sales is commendable, there’s another crucial aspect to consider.

In this lesson, I’ll reveal how to craft content that effortlessly earns links from major media outlets—like having an automated link-building system.

What Are Statistics Posts?

Statistics posts serve as concise compilations of essential statistics, data, and trends related to a specific topic or company.

Creating and ranking them is often straightforward. You’ll need just a handful of links, a well-crafted post, and a couple of custom graphics.

Once you secure a top-three ranking…

Big media links roll in on autopilot.

Why?

Journalists constantly seek statistics for their articles. When they discover a relevant statistic, they reference the source and link back to the site.

Statistics roundups simplify their job, allowing us to enjoy those juicy high-authority links effortlessly.

The key lies in curating impactful stats and writing about relevant subjects.

Create A List of Ideas In Your Niche

Here’s a concise guide on generating ideas for statistics posts:

  1. Brainstorm Industry Elements:
  • Create a list of relevant elements in your niche:
  • Tools
  • Services
  • Providers
  • Manufacturers
  • Brands
  • Compile statistics related to these elements. This brainstorming process will yield numerous ideas.
  1. Stay Current With Trends:
  • Consider hot topics and recent news within your niche.
  • Research what’s currently trending.
  • Utilize platforms like Google News to identify relevant subjects covered by multiple news and media sources.

Remember, combining data-driven statistics with timely topics can lead to compelling and engaging content!

Start by asking yourself: What specific news frequently emerges within a subject or topic?

These topics are ideal because journalists are actively seeking data to reference in their articles.

The key lies in crafting each post with specificity and focus. Avoid generic statistical content, as it won’t rank well, and journalists won’t link to it.

Here are some specific post ideas that could work:

  1. Ecommerce Statistics
  2. Online Gaming Statistics
  3. Remote Work Statistics
  4. Gender Pay Statistics
  5. Mobile Usage Statistics
  6. Climate Change Statistics
  7. Mental Health Statistics
  8. Influencer Marketing Statistics
  9. Diabetes Statistics
  10. Fentanyl Statistics
  11. Crime Statistics

Remember, the sky’s the limit when brainstorming statistics topics. Just ensure they are relevant to your niche.

You can even focus on brands, products, companies, and services:

  • BRAND Statistics (e.g., Facebook Statistics)
  • PRODUCT Statistics (e.g., iWatch Statistics)
  • SERVICE Statistics (e.g., Zoom Statistics)

Don’t hesitate to include location-based ideas:

  • US Lottery Statistics
  • Arizona Car Crime Statistics
  • United Kingdom Health Care Statistics

Now, unleash your creativity and create topics that are likely to gain media coverage in your niche!
